Nashmoney Sneaker Speakers

As part of the Inspired Ingenuity competition by Havana Club, Nashmoney, known for his well executed sneaker customizations, created the above sneaker speakers.

The competition is taking place over the first six months of 2011, challenging artists, musicians and other creative talents to takes the everyday and turn it into something special. A winner will be picked each month, and the final winner will win a trip to Cuba.

To help promote the competition, Intercity commissioned three artists to create a piece of work that takes the everyday and turns it into something special – and as we see sneaker customisation as its own form of Inspired Ingenuity, Nash was an obvious choice as one of those artists. The result is a fully working Nike Air Force 1 sneakers turned into a set of speakers.

Nike Air Max Nomo

Bringing back a bit of nostalgia from the ‘90s, Nike brings back the Air Max Nomo retro that had a type of cult following back in the day. First released in 1996, this baseball/training shoe was the signature model for emerging pitching sensation Hideo Nomo from Japan. Nomo was known not only for his quirky “tornado” wind up but also as the first Japanese-born player to play in the Major Leagues in over 30 years. He was the first of what would become many Japanese players to eventually make it to The Bigs. Nike chose to go with one of the original colorways of the shoe featuring a Varsity Red nubuck upper contrasted by the black mesh “teeth” that gave this shoe its distinction. Similar to the Air Griffey Max 1, the midsole is constructed with a Varsity Maize Air bubble ride. This is the first time Nike has brought back the Air Max Nomo so don’t sleep on this release.

Nike SB Dunk High “Statue of Liberty”

Here’s another great concept for the Nike SB Dunk High and it pays tribute to one of America’s greatest landmarks, Lady Liberty herself. The all leather upper is completely drenched in a seagrass green reminiscent of the patina green copper cladding of the Statue of Liberty. Mint Green laces and tongue adds a slight variation in color while off-white colors the lining and sole of this Dunk. A portrait of the iconic statue is branded on the top of tongue to further pay homage to the symbol of freedom. The best feature of this shoe is easily the cool effect that happens as it is transformed from the natural wear and tear that a skate shoe will in fact go through. As the first layer of seagrass leather is worn off, it exposes a second layer of copper and silver below to give it that weathered metal look. Like I said, a great sneaker concept executed to perfection and well thought out. This release will be a quickstrike with a date to be determined and you can be sure they’ll disappear fast.
