Nike, Jordan, Converse Black History Month 2011

Nike honors this year’s Black History Month with four sneakers celebrating three important basketball players: Julius Irving (Dr. J), Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant. The black Stetson leather uppers are nod to the past, when shoes on the court were almost always black, while the hints of gold are reminders of the golden moment we all are striving to achieve. Further details include a clear tinted outsole and a woodblock cut print around the upper by artist Hele Woodruff. Look for a release through select Nike retailers shortly.

Nike Sportswear Air Force 1 Black History Month 2010
First seen last night on TNT’s NBA halftime report, this year’s Black History Month Air Force 1s will have a retail release. Drawing inspiration from the rise of Black enterprise, economic empowerment and the Harlem Renaissance, the shoes are featured in black, red and green with the quote “The definition of a renaissance individual: one who possesses a multitude of skills, talent and a broad base of knowledge.” embossed over the upper.
Proceeds from the sale of these shoes will be donated to Cheyney University, the oldest Black institution in the United States. Scheduled for a February 18th release at top tier Nike doors.
