Freegums Discusses His Nike LeBron 9 Collaboration

A Talk w/ Freegums about the Nike LeBron 9 Collab from Inside The Sneakerbox on Vimeo.

“Who is Freegums”? In an effort to give the LeBron 9 some local flavor, Nike Basketball partnered up with the local artist, creating this sick colorway inspired by his signature works. InsideTheSneakerBox got a chance to ask Freegums a few questions during the private Freegums x Nike LeBron 9 event last weekend, and if you view the full video above, you’ll find out how this collaboration came to happen and where you can find an ‘easter egg’ in the shoe (Freegums’ initials).

FREEGUMS

Article // Brandon Richard

Last night, Miami's Shoe Gallery hosted a special meet-and-greet event with local artist Freegums, who was recently given an opportunity to apply his signature artistic style to the Nike LeBron 9. Freegums (Alvaro Ilizarbe) incorporated several prominent Miami staples into the pattern, as well as several notable LeBron cues. The pattern appears along the inner lining, as well as the outer white parts of the shoe in a tonal variation.

Following a limited release at last night's event, the Freegums x LeBron 9 will be made available in a wider capacity on December 31st. Sole Collector was in the building for the event, so keep it locked for a little more information, as well as some commentary from Freegums himself.

From a Artist stand point these kicks are dope by designed colorway. From a sneakerhead stand point i really am not a big fan of this Lebron 9 compared to the 8's. - Kix

Nike LeBron 9 ‘Miami Hurricanes’ – Coming to Retailers

The Lebron 9 is coming out with the UM PE colorway but again no NCAA logo. For me thats a no go but for people who just want the colorway and are UM fans you might cop these.

Nike LeBron 9 – Black Sport Red | Release Reminder

The annual Nike LeBron signature kicks off with a few high-energy releases like the ‘China’ and the ‘Cannon’, but for those who prefer the no-frills, clean and simple colorways, tomorrow is the day to officially cop the Black/Red Nike LeBron 9. The Black/Red colorway, dubbed the ‘Away’, is considered to be the flagship colorway for the Nike LeBron ever since the first Air Zoom Generation. It’s been quite a journey for the Nike LeBron signature line, and tomorrow, the world will get to experience the best that Nike Basketball has to offer – Hyperfuse/Flywire, Max/Zooom cushioning, and one of the sleekest designs ever put on paper.

Nike LeBron 9 ‘Scarface’

When LeBron James decided to relocate down to Miami, the Nike LeBron team embraced the new surroundings with an open mind. Right off the bat, the 'South Beach' colorway was created, setting the tone for a high-energy line of Miami-inspired special edition releases like the 'Miami Nights' LeBron 8 Low and LeBron 9 as well as the Miami Hurricanes PE. Plenty of pop-culture references can be attributed to the city of Miami, but very few, if any at all, strike the note like 'Scarface' does; here we have a look at the Nike LeBron 9 'Scarface', which features the familiar palette of white, black, and red as well as unique detailing on the inner lining as well as the on the upper white sectionals. We'll have more on the Scarface LeBron 9s as it develops.

Nike LeBron 9 “Blackout” (Release Info)

The Nike LeBron 9 follows the trend of past LeBron signature shoes, receiving a “Blackout” colorway that although is subtle, definitely turns heads. Dressed in black and anthracite hues, the shoe still catches your attention thanks to its unique construction. Look for these to release to retailers on November 23rd and retail for $170.

Nike LeBron 9 ‘China’

After getting a peak at the Nike Lebron 9 Miami we know that the sneaker can be blocked nicely but we still haven’t really seen the shoe in that colorway in its entirety. We do however get a really good look at the next in line. The China colorway of the sneaker features an upper that is awash with Neptune Blue and Current Blue along with hits of Total Orange. No word has been given yet as to their release.

Nike Air Max LeBron 9

LeBron’s 9th sneaker is going to have to grow on me. The sneaker has a strate basketball feel no casual style to it unlike his last pair which had a smooth in the Jordan category of casualness to it. This new design is probably going to have a version 2 for the sneaker headz who rock there kix but don't really play ball. The Black / Varsity Red – White sneaker is a no-nonsense model and as you can see here it is has everything he’d need to start the season off correctly.
