Freegums Talks Nike LeBron 9 Collaboration

By this time last year we already had a definitive Miami flavored colorway of the Nike LeBron 8, but has any one colorway cemented that same status for the Nike LeBron 9 as of yet? A case can be made for a handful of them, and in that conversation the Freegums x Nike LeBron 9 collaboration must be included. While it doesn’t go for a flashy palette that many associate with the Miami aura, artist Freegums leaned a little more on the natural surroundings of Florida as inspiration for his fluid graphic prints that show up on the sneakers. Freegums Discusses His Nike LeBron 9 Collaboration

A Talk w/ Freegums about the Nike LeBron 9 Collab from Inside The Sneakerbox on Vimeo.

“Who is Freegums”? In an effort to give the LeBron 9 some local flavor, Nike Basketball partnered up with the local artist, creating this sick colorway inspired by his signature works. InsideTheSneakerBox got a chance to ask Freegums a few questions during the private Freegums x Nike LeBron 9 event last weekend, and if you view the full video above, you’ll find out how this collaboration came to happen and where you can find an ‘easter egg’ in the shoe (Freegums’ initials).

Freegums LeBron 9 – Private Event Recap

Alvaro ‘Freegums’ Ilizarbe was on hand at Shoe Gallery to celebrate the drop of his first Nike collaboration. This was an event filled with smiling faces who’d come to see the wall of Freegums LeBron 9s and the similarly-styled wall upon which they were displayed, and you can see a video recap of the party by clicking on the jump below. via Stickie213

FREEGUMS

Article // Brandon Richard

Last night, Miami's Shoe Gallery hosted a special meet-and-greet event with local artist Freegums, who was recently given an opportunity to apply his signature artistic style to the Nike LeBron 9. Freegums (Alvaro Ilizarbe) incorporated several prominent Miami staples into the pattern, as well as several notable LeBron cues. The pattern appears along the inner lining, as well as the outer white parts of the shoe in a tonal variation.

Following a limited release at last night's event, the Freegums x LeBron 9 will be made available in a wider capacity on December 31st. Sole Collector was in the building for the event, so keep it locked for a little more information, as well as some commentary from Freegums himself.

From a Artist stand point these kicks are dope by designed colorway. From a sneakerhead stand point i really am not a big fan of this Lebron 9 compared to the 8's. - Kix
